Burnaby School District provides learning pathways for students who could benefit from an alternate setting to show their learning and experience success.<\/p>\n

Bridge South (Burnaby South Secondary)<\/h3>\n

For students in Grade 8 & 9 who could benefit from additional support in their transition to secondary school. This program provides a safe and supportive environment of classroom instruction and learning opportunities with the goal of experiencing academic success and supporting their social emotional learning.<\/p>\n

Bridge North (Burnaby North Secondary)<\/h3>\n

For students in Grade 8 & 9 who could benefit from additional support in their transition to secondary school. This\u00a0 program provides a safe and supportive environment of classroom instruction and learning opportunities with the goal of experiencing academic success and supporting their social emotional learning.<\/p>\n

Outlook\u00a0Program (near Gilmore Skytrain)<\/h3>\n

For students who would benefit from additional support in a smaller classroom setting. This program provides intensive wrap around support and focuses not only on academics but also on social-emotional learning. It is a partnership with Saint Leonard\u2019s Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Royal Oak Alternate Program (Canada Way Education Centre)<\/h3>\n

For students in grades 10-12 who would benefit from an alternate learning environment. Royal Oak provides direct instruction, academic and social-emotional support to help students experience success.<\/p>\n

Take a Hike Program (Canada Way Education Centre)<\/h3>\n

For students in grades 10-12 who would benefit from an alternate learning environment. This program offers a unique combination of adventure-based learning, academics, therapy, and community involvement. It is a partnership with Take A Hike At-Risk Youth Foundation .<\/p>\n

Students who are best suited for the Take a Hike program often struggle with issues that have inhibited their success in school. This program\u00a0guides students through outdoor day trips and multi-day expeditions, using\u00a0activities designed to\u00a0develop self-directed goals, trust, communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills in a safe, supportive environment. Youth are\u00a0empowered to\u00a0create a positive path with positive outcomes,\u00a0 to\u00a0blaze their own trail, a trail that is\u00a0right for them, that empowers them, and creates\u00a0survival skills for life.<\/p>\n

The ultimate goal of the Take a Hike\u00a0program is that barriers to learning are minimized, personal issues are addressed, and students achieve a greater level of social and academic success. Youth Hub (on Imperial Street)<\/h3>\n

For students in Grades 10-12 who would benefit from an alternate learning environment that focusses on improved mental health an academic success. This program focusses on increasing school engagement. It is a partnership with the Lower Mainland Purpose Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n
