Restrictions to students’ use of digital devices, including cell phones have been added to the Code of Conduct for the Burnaby School District.
The additional language in the Code of Conduct makes it clear that all students need to have their devices safely stored, on silent mode, and out of sight during instructional time. The classroom teacher may give permission for students to use digital devices for education-related activities. Certain exceptions to the restrictions are also outlined, as are variations for elementary and secondary students. Elementary students are also restricted from using digital devices during non-instructional time, such as at recess and lunch.
The following posters support clarity around when students can and can’t use their cell phones.
